March 1, 2024

From February 6-9, 2024, Yale’s Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (IPCH) hosted a global symposium in Johannesburg, South Africa where leaders and innovators gathered to learn, connect and develop strategies to support cultural heritage preservation on the African continent. The symposium is part of IPCH’s signature international program, the Yale Directors Forum, a prestigious fellowship program tailored to visionary leaders of museums, cultural centers, libraries, archives, and heritage sites working across Africa.

The symposium gathered over 35 participants including Yale faculty and staff, fellows of the Yale Directors Forum and guest experts from India, Cote d’Ivoire, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. From engaging sessions featuring renowned experts and interactive discussions led by Yale faculty and staff, to the captivating visits to various cultural and heritage sites, the symposium offered a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, learning and collaboration.
