Managing Collection Environments is an initiative that addresses a number of compelling research questions and practical issues pertaining to the control and management of collection environments in museums. This presentation will explore how the initiative combines lab-based research and an epidemiological approach with results from real objects exposed to real conditions. The combination of laboratory and real data strengthens the quality of evidence in understanding an object’s behavior under a range of environmental conditions.

Dr. Michał Lukomski is a physicist working on the mechanical characterization of historic materials relevant to collections of fine and decorative art and their response to changes of environmental parameters. He also investigates painted surfaces using advanced optical techniques.
