Environmental Monitoring Data Project Update

In the final months of FY26, the team worked closely with Technical & Cultural Heritage Collections and Facilities partners to complete the promised FY26 project scope.

Data Harvesting and Visualization

The team completed the deployment of new data loggers and the data logger vendor, Coris,
delivered a customized training session for users. The project team and technical partners
completed final testing and released the production data pipeline, database, and reporting
dashboard, which is now fully live and operating successfully.

Data Sharing

The team held planning discussions with Energy Management and Yale University Art Gallery staff regarding potential integrations to set direction for data-sharing pilots in FY27.

Energy Management staff will partner with the team in a pilot integration with Building Automation Systems (BAS) in collections spaces. Potential benefits of the integration are matching air handling units to the collections spaces they are serving and the ability to compare environmental condition readings between data loggers and BAS readings.

The Yale University Art Gallery will partner with the team in a pilot integration with their collection management system, potentially providing a history of the environmental conditions in which an object was placed over time.

Best Practices and Process

In May, the team hosted best practices and guidelines for climate standards and governance model workshops. Working groups are now detailing the standards and model with the goal of sharing materials for review by cultural heritage and facilities decision makers this fall.

What’s Next?

Looking ahead to FY27, the team will deploy additional data loggers in Yale Library spaces, add climate threshold data to the pipeline, and advance design discussions with Energy Management and the Yale University Art Gallery on planned pilots.

The team will translate workshop outcomes into proposed climate guidelines for collections spaces, and separately, recommended processes and communications for environmental conditioning changes.

Finally, the team will partner with Energy Management to define and implement energy performance improvement activities at the Collections Study Center at West Campus.
