Jens Stenger presented at PittCon 2015 in New Orleans

March 31, 2015

On March 10, 2015 Jens Stenger gave a lecture titled “Non-Invasive Color Restoration of Mark Rothko’s Harvard Murals Using Light from a Digital Projector” at the PittCon 2015 conference at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. His talk was part of a symposium called “Recovering the Original Colors of Paintings through Analytical Chemistry” organized by Christian Amatore (ENS, Paris, France) and Philippe Walter (LAMS, Paris).

Stenger’s abstract from the conference: “Colors observed today in paintings are not always those desired by the old Masters. Many pigments aged catastrophically: fading, reactions with light, humidity or binders, etc. Modern analytical methods and new chemical concepts provide better understanding about such complex chemical phenomena which can thus be virtually “inverted” to restore original paintings colors.”
