November 7, 2014

Dr. Aniko Bezur traveled to Washington D.C. to participate in the Voynich in the Lab workshop at the Folger Shakespeare library, which was organized in advance of the opening of the Folger’s exhibit Decoding the Renaissance on view November 11, 2014 through February 26, 2015. The Voynich Manuscript is a fifteenth-century cipher manuscript that has so far eluded attempts to decode it. Participants with a wide range of expertise - including art history, history of medicine, paleography, book and manuscript conservation, leather and parchment manufacture, and the scientific analysis of cultural heritage - were convened to discuss outstanding questions and to work toward defining future research directions. Dr. Bezur’s contribution to the workshop was to share the results of recent imaging and analyses performed on the the manuscript at IPCH by Dr. Erin Mysak, Dr. Jens Stenger, and Paula Zyats, Assistant Chief Conservator at Yale University Libraries.
