Hi, I’m Thaïs Shepard, a sophomore in Morse College at Yale University double majoring in Art and History of Art! In my home region of the Brazilian Amazon, I explored my interest in historical objects through archaeology field expeditions and laboratory internships while also discovering my love for painting and photography. With the wonderful opportunities I’ve been having during my time at Yale, I have continued to delve into the possibility of handling and preserving material culture and artistic creations from the past, while learning about the importance of harnessing their stories to repair historical narratives. I aspire to combine my interests into a career path in art conservation, and am also interested in collection and exhibit curatorship. I am thrilled to be the first Summer Scholar Intern at IPCH, where I’ve been having incredible chances to explore these fields. I am working mainly analyzing Celadon ceramics with the Lab’s awesome X-ray fluorescence spectrometer, and helping with other projects such as wood identification in the Furniture Study with Ivy, the Hume Intern and my great friend. I’m so grateful for all the support and my wonderful experiences here while I get the chance to work with amazing professionals, and I’m beyond excited with everything I am learning this summer as IPCH shapes my path!
