Event description:

The Yale School Of Art Painting and Printmaking Department is honored to welcome Martina Droth, Deputy Director of Research and Curator of Sculpture at the Yale Center for British Art, and Paul Messier, Chair of Yale’s Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage and Director of the IPCH Lens Media Lab, for a talk on their recent publication Bill Brandt | Henry Moore. The book features photographs, drawings, and sculptures that responded in real time to the terror and destruction of the Second World War, as well as newsprint and magazine clippings, negatives, contact sheets, cut-outs, and unfinished experiments in collage. Droth and Messier will highlight the photographic techniques and considerations that went into the documentation of the various materials presented in the book, as well as the collective efforts that went into contextualizing the temporal, performative aspects of Brandt and Moore’s wartime photographs of London.
