Paul Messier made the leap to photography when apprenticing with José Orraca, who was enlisted by Georgia O’Keeffe to preserve Alfred Stieglitz’s prints when photographic conservation was in its infancy. Today he’s the “go-to guy” shaping how we perceive photography as fine art. Messier spoke with Art New England about his career and work as the the Director of the Lens Media Lab at Yale’s Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage.
