Overview
The Implementation phase of the Environmental Monitoring project team commenced in July. The team was set to purchase Onset (now Licor) data loggers for West Campus when final testing revealed critical data issues due to feature changes from their acquisition. Consequently, the team pivoted and issued a Request for Information (RFI) to explore alternative data logger vendors. Meanwhile, the development of the data pipeline continues, and work on report requirements has begun, along with infrastructure planning for new data logger installations. Additionally, the team hired Linden Preservation Services (LPS) to review the landscape and details of HVAC systems at West Campus.
The RFI was released in September, and the team reviewed responses in October, with decisions on the top candidates expected in November. The team plans to test demo equipment and aims to enter into a contract with a new vendor in December. Although the purchase of new equipment is delayed, the installation of new loggers is still anticipated to be completed this spring as planned.
The data pipeline now collects temperature and relative humidity data from three different types of data loggers, merging it into a single conduit preparing the data for integration into a table by the Data Management team.
In September, LPS conducted an evaluation of the HVAC systems in the Collections Studies Center at 900 West Campus. This evaluation matches the air handling units to the collections areas they serve, informs leaders about the condition of equipment, and enables them to provide input on energy-saving strategies.
What’s Next?
The data pipeline will be finalized by the end of November, and Data Management ingestion will commence. Concurrently, collections unit representatives will be testing data loggers from the top candidates. The team will also explore environmental data integrations with individual unit collections data systems and building management systems. Planning for the FY27 project’s scope and activities will take shape.
