Sydney Nikolaus is a paintings conservator and research associate for the Lens Media Lab where her work involves increasing access to the lab’s reference collection of historic photographic papers.  Before joining the Lens Media Lab, Sydney worked as a paintings conservator for the Yale University Art Gallery (2020-2021), and as paintings conservator for the Alma Thomas Research Project at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art (2019). She has held two post-graduate fellowships in paintings conservation at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (2018-2019) and the Yale University Art Gallery (2016-2018), as well as graduate internships at the Rijksmuseum and The Freer Gallery of Art. She holds a M.S. in Paintings Conservation from the Winterthur/University of Delaware and a BFA Honors from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
