Batana Vundla is Executive Director and Head of Film at Eyethu Heritage Hall in Soweto, South Africa, where he leads initiatives dedicated to preserving and celebrating the legacy of African storytelling through film, heritage, and community engagement. Through his work, he has expanded cultural programming rooted in the legacy of Eyethu Cinema, one of South Africa’s first Black-owned cinemas, and has advanced community-centered storytelling through film and heritage initiatives. Previously, he built a career as an award-winning producer, creator, and cultural curator spanning feature film, television, and cultural programming, and is best known as co-originator and co-producer of Inxeba (The Wound), South Africa’s official submission to the Academy Awards in 2018. His work focuses on cultural preservation through film and storytelling, advancing creative production, heritage interpretation, and intergenerational cultural memory.
