Kirt Henry, Ph.D., is Director of the African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica/Jamaica Memory Bank (ACIJ/JMB) in Kingston, Jamaica, where he leads initiatives dedicated to preserving, documenting, and promoting Jamaica’s cultural heritage, particularly African cultural retentions and living traditions. Through his work, he has advanced national efforts to safeguard intangible cultural heritage through research, advocacy, and public engagement and has led initiatives to document and protect cultural practices and knowledge systems across Jamaica as the country’s national focal point for UNESCO’s 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Previously, he worked closely with communities, cultural practitioners, and policymakers to strengthen cultural preservation efforts and has been recognized with the Governor General’s Achievement Award and the Prime Minister’s National Youth Award for Excellence. His work focuses on intangible cultural heritage and living traditions, advancing cultural preservation and strengthening connections between Jamaica, Africa, and the wider diaspora.
