Lekgetho Makola is Chief Operations Officer of The Market Theatre Foundation in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is the former CEO of the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria in South Africa and former Head of Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg. Under his leadership, Market Photo Workshop was awarded the International Principal Prince Claus Award in 2018. Lekgetho has over two decades of experience and strategic expertise in arts administration and artistic programming. He has worked with many institutions including the Robben Island Museum, a World Heritage Site, and was an International Ford Foundation Fellow on Social Justice. He is a founding member of Centres of Learning for Photography in Africa, a continental network for photographic hubs. Lekgetho’s artistic achievements include being commissioned to create a bronze sculpture for President Nelson Mandela as a sitting president in 1999. Lekgetho holds an MFA in Film Studies from Howard University.
